The picture is of Black-headed Caiques. They scientific name is Pionites Melanocephala. Caique's are known as the "clowns" of the bird world. Caiques are very playful and have a cute little hop that is just adorable. Caiques are extremely smart and inquisitive little birds. They need to have a good sized cage with lots, and I do mean lots of toys. It is a good idea to move the toys around from time to time so they do not become bored. Caiques, like all parrots, are able to learn to talk if you work with them. Caiques love to whistle and do sounds. The Black-headed Caique has an irridesant green body. They have a jet black head with an orange band between the head and body. Black -headed Caiques' orange legs makes them look like they have on britches. The Black-headed Caique's belly is a yellowish beige color and they have a dark beak and feet. Black-headed are about 9 inches in length and have a life span of about 25 years.
