Blue Quakers
Myiositta Monachus
This picture is a pair of Blue Quaker parrots. They are
also known to be called Monk Parakeets. Their scientific
name is Myiositta Monachus. The Quaker Parrot is about 11
inches from head to tail and weigh a whooping 3 1/2 ounces.
This size makes for a very comfortable companion whether
you are holding it on your hand, arm, or shoulder. The upper
parts of the Blue Quaker's body is covered with beautiful baby
blue feathers with a texture of baby soft down. Their head and
belly have grayish-white feathers. Their feet are a light gray and
they have a light orange beak. The Quaker's life span ranges from
15 to 25 years.
The Quaker's nature is to be playful and they are very energetic
little birds. The green quaker usually have a very strong personality
while the Blue Quaker usually have a more docile personality but
are still very playful and entertaining. They are known for their
talking ability and usually will begin talking even from an extremely
young age. Quakers are known to develop a very large vocabulary,
so if you don't want them to repeat what you say, don't say it in their
presence. They are also extremely intelligent little ones and can learn
to do many tricks. Like all birds, Quakers will compete with their
environment.
