CARE:

Never place your bird or your bird’s cage in front of an AC or heating vent. Never use a space heater
in the house with your birds, as they put off fumes that could kill your birds. You should NEVER change your bird's environmental temperature more than 10 degrees at a time.  Birds do not sweat like we do and therefore they could catch a cold with a drastic change in temperature. Never put your bird outside in very hot or very cold weather and bring it to another temperature. If you see your bird at the bottom of the cage, not eating or drinking, after a temperature change, please call your avian vet immediately. You should keep your pet’s wings & nails clipped. A home is not a safe environment for a bird to fly in. They can fly into windows, out the door if open, or get to unsafe items such as electric cords which they might chew on. It is not safe to carry your bird on your shoulder outside, as in Florida there are too many hawks. Hawks can sweep down and take your bird before you can realize what is happening.

BATHING:

Birds love baths! You can supply a bowl to bathe in, or you can mist them with room temperature water using a small mist bottle.  Make sure they are not in a draft and allow them to preen themselves and dry on their own. (I say this because I knew someone who gave her bird a bath in the sink and then dried it with a hair dryer.  It, of course, became sick with a cold and ended up at the vets office.)

EXERCISE:

It is important that your bird have a cage large enough with plenty of toys so that it can get plenty of exercise and stay occupied while in its cage.  A bored bird is not a happy bird.
Also, make sure that you allow your bird out of the cage.  Always spend plenty of time with your bird and play with it, so that it feels loved and is able to love you. (Preferably every day)
Along with plenty of toys and time out of cage, it is important to have a variety of perches having different widths. This allows your baby to exercise their feet and helps prevent arthritis in later years.

If you let your bird socialize with all members of the household, friends, and family that visit, you will
have a much happier bird and you will enjoy it so much more.

Keep your bird safe and happy, and you will both have a great relationship for many years to come.

Teflon
Air Fresheners (I have used organic essential oils very moderately)
Scented Candles
Carbon Monoxide
Household Cleaning Products
(you can use bleach to clean but it MUST be in a very weak solution and rinsed well)
Perfumes
Coil Space Heaters     *Ceramic Space Heaters are safe*

         DIET:

We feed Zupreem Fruit Blend pellets and Higgins Eggfood as the main diet for our birds, pets and
breeders. They also enjoy fresh organic fruits and veggies, along with homemade Birdie Bread.

They receive seed treats 1 to 2 times per month which consists of  Sunshine’s Sunburst, as it has a good
mix of seeds and dried fruits & veggies and/or millet sprays.

The argument that birds in the wild eat seeds, nuts & berries, is true; however, birds in the wild fly an
average of 25 miles a day, where caged birds do not receive the same kind of exercise.  I have seen birds
die from a burst liver due to feeding only a seed diet and some birds will not breed if too over weight.

Always keep a cuddle bone available for your bird, and fresh water.  I prefer the cuddle bone, instead
of the calcium blocks, as it is all natural, with no man made products added.

Our breeders and babies are trained to use a water bottle.  It provides fresh water with opportunity for
        bacterial contamination.
